SELCAN Sustainability Stars combines training and awards to help people, organisations and communities understand their environmental impact and take practical steps towards a more sustainable future.

The scheme offers free or subsidised training to eligible businesses across South and East Lincolnshire and celebrates local sustainability achievements through the Sustainability Stars Awards.

The scheme is delivered with support from PECT and the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership’s Grants4Growth team.

Available Training Courses and Accreditation

• ISEP Environmental Sustainability Skills for the Workforce (1 day) – from £51 (with 70% subsidy) - Date TBC

• ISEP Pathways to Net Zero (2 day) – from £113 (with 70% subsidy) - 2nd December 2026

• INVESTORS IN THE ENVIRONMENT (IIE) Membership for small and medium enterprises - Ongoing Accreditation from £550 (with 50% subsidy)

Coming Soon - Free Carbon Literacy Training for Businesses – (Date to Be Confirmed)

SELCAN is inviting local businesses to a free Carbon Literacy training day. Participants will explore the sources and impacts of carbon emissions and learn practical ways to reduce them, supporting more sustainable ways of working.

After the session, delegates may complete a short assessment to work towards formal certification from the Carbon Literacy Project.

The session will run from 9.15 am to 4.00 pm at The Hub, Mareham Road, Horncastle, LN9 6PH. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch is not provided, but tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day.

Investors in the Environment Membership

Investors in the Environment (iiE) is a national environmental accreditation scheme that helps organisations save time and money, reduce their environmental impact and gain recognition for their progress. It offers a practical, proven route for organisations beginning or continuing their sustainability journey.

Designed for small and medium-sized enterprises, iiE helps members monitor resource use, develop action plans, engage staff and build credible environmental credentials around their operational priorities.

PECT provides practical tools, templates and expert support to help participating organisations set goals and put effective actions into practice.

Free Stickerbook Licences

Stickerbook is an interactive learning platform that makes sustainability training simple and engaging. Users can:

• Collect stickers by completing short microlearning sessions on key sustainability topics.

• Watch engaging videos that simplify complex concepts in just a few minutes.

• Test your knowledge with quick interactive activities.

• Track your progress and see how your learning journey is evolving.

• Compete and collaborate with colleagues through leaderboards and team challenges.

This flexible approach helps make sustainability part of everyday decision-making, enabling participants to learn at their own pace and apply their knowledge in practical situations.

Sustainability Stars Awards

The Sustainability Stars Awards recognise and celebrate people, projects, schools, workplaces and organisations making a positive contribution to sustainability across our communities. Nominate a sustainability champion in one of the following categories:

• Community Champion

• Community Project 

• Junior/Schools Champion (Ages 4-16)

• Young Person in the Workplace (Ages 16-24)

• Workplace Champion (25+)

• Most Sustainable Business

What could be nominated?

The examples below are intended as a guide. Nominations may cover other actions that demonstrate a positive and lasting contribution to sustainability.

·         Community Champion: An individual who inspires others or leads local action, such as establishing a repair café, organising litter picks, promoting walking and cycling, sharing surplus food or supporting a community growing initiative.

·         Community Project: A group initiative that delivers environmental benefits, such as creating a community garden, restoring a wildlife habitat, reducing waste at local events, running a reuse scheme or improving the energy efficiency of a shared building.

·         Junior/Schools Champion (ages 4–16): A pupil, group or school leading practical action, such as reducing energy use, improving recycling, planting for wildlife, organising a clothes or book swap, cutting food waste or raising awareness among classmates and families.

·         Young Person in the Workplace (ages 16–24): A young employee or apprentice who develops or champions a sustainability initiative, such as reducing single-use items, improving recycling, encouraging sustainable travel, monitoring resource use or engaging colleagues in environmental action.

·         Workplace Champion (25+): An employee who leads positive change at work, such as introducing an environmental action plan, reducing energy use, improving procurement practices, introducing improved monitoring and reporting.

·         Most Sustainable Business: A business demonstrating a strong, organisation-wide commitment through measurable action, such as lowering emissions, reducing waste, using resources efficiently, adopting renewable energy, developing sustainable products or services, supporting nature and involving staff, customers or suppliers.
