Water, Resilience & Adaptation Sub-Group

Background

Water is a key resource across sectors and underpins many aspects of society including food production, nature, and our built environment. Climate change is having a big impact on the way we consume and manage water as a resource. The South and East of Lincolnshire has a naturally low-lying coastline and is one of the driest regions in the UK which makes it vulnerable to intense rainfall and impacts such as coastal inundation and surface water flooding.

The changing climate is causing increased risk of drought and flooding, resulting in an increased pressure on water resources. The traditional way of managing water as a resource is through drainage, which is causing a strain on resources during summer. The region is also under water stress, meaning that the available resource is less than demand.  We therefore need a new approach to best combat the changing climate.

What the sub group’s aims/priorities are

The water, resilience and adaptation subgroup was formed with the goal of better managing water resources in South and East Lincolnshire, ensuring that our adaptation and mitigation measures are designed to not only be effective, but resilient to further change. The group’s priorities over the next 12 months will be to promote technologies and behaviours that reduce water consumption across all domestic and commercial sectors. We also hope to support initiatives to improve the management of waterways and coastal areas to reduce flood risk and benefit from the natural environment.

Who make up the subgroup – background/roles etc…
