Transport Sub-Group

According to the Department  for Energy Security & Net Zero, transport as a sector was responsible for 34% of all territorial carbon dioxide emissions in 2022, the large majority of which was from road transport. 98% of all food and agricultural products in the UK are transported by road which makes this a very important  for us to look at in SELCAN as food and agriculture are such an important part of our economy.

In the Transport Sub-Group,  we are looking at how we can help reduce the impact of the transport sector both on the personal and commercial scale. To achieve this, we are looking at a variety of approaches that include using the SELCAN website to signpost existing services, some of which are underutilised, as well as practical measures such as  technological innovation, alternative fuels, encouraging a change in consumer habits in relation to e-commerce and home deliveries and exploring how freight could be moved by multi modal transport. With the Port of Boston on our doorstep, moving freight by sea rather than road presents a real opportunity.

The Group would very much like to encourage greater take up of Public Transport within the area but recognise that improvements to services would likely have to happen first.

By bringing together people and knowledge from private, public and third sector, SELCAN and the Transport Sub-Group hope to provide help and guidance to businesses and individuals in how to reduce the impact of transport across our local area and beyond.
